Quick FAQ for Residents
Effective July 1, 2025
Q: Why is my trash bill going up?
A: This is the first increase in over 10 years. Since 2014, the Township has covered rising service costs so residents didn’t have to. But it’s finally caught up with us, and we need to share a small part of the cost to keep things running smoothly.
Q: How much more will I pay?
A: If you have Standard Service (which most residents do), your bi-monthly bill will go from $26.22 to $28.84 — that’s just $2.62 more every two months, or $1.31 a month.
Here’s a breakdown of the new rates (billed every two months):
| Service | Current Bi-Monthly | New Bi-Monthly | Increase |
|---|
| Standard (most common) | $26.22 | $28.84 | +$2.62 |
| Carryout Service | $32.02 | $35.28 | +$3.26 |
| Containerized Service | $22.88 | $27.46 | +$4.58 |
Q: When will this go into effect?
A: The new rates begin July 1, 2025, so you’ll see them on your July–August bill.
Q: Why not just raise it all at once?
A: The Board of Trustees is taking a thoughtful approach by doing small, manageable increases over time—instead of one big jump. It’s about staying ahead of inflation without creating hardship for residents.
Q: Are our rates still pretty low?
A: Yes! Even with this change, Harrison Township is still one of the most affordable communities in the area for trash and recycling.
Q: Who should I call if I have questions?
A:
