Longtime Harrison Township resident, John C. Swann Jr. recognized at Life Achievement Service to honor his life on August 30, 2023.
Spring Hills Singing Woods in Harrison Township hosted this event honoring Mr. Swann. There was a video tribute and representatives from Dayton Unit NAACP, Miami University, Miami University Alumni Association, Compassus Hospice, family, friends and former basketball teammates from his playing days at Miami.
Mr. Swann was not only a star basketball player in the 1960's at Miami University, but he was also an educator and administrator. Mr. Swann was one of the first students in 1956 to integrate White Sulphur High School in West Virginia. In 2021, Mr. Swann was named one of the one hundred greatest West Virginia basketball players by the Charleston Gazette newspaper.
