President's Council
PDF Print E-mail

President: Keith Rihm

Vice President: Nancy Brown

In 2007 staff redeveloped the President’s Council format and began the building blocks of a stronger, independent group which would create projects encompassing the entire Harrison Township community with representatives from all the separate Neighborhood Associations meeting on a quarterly basis.  In 2009, the President’s Council continued to grow into the functioning body staff hopes will continue to have a strong, positive presence in the township for years to come.  The President’s Council was able to take this step be continuing to work on projects they initiated in 2008.

In August, 2010, the President's Council and all active, recognized Harrison Township Neighborhood Association Presidents, drafted and approved a new Constitution which this organization will subsequently by governed by heading into the future.  This group will be supported by township staff, however, it is now a separate and independent unit serving as an additional support mechanism, which will assist Harrison Township as we move towards the future and continue our efforts working with the community in a positive partnership.  You can review the new Constitution   here  as well as see what was discussed at the meetings by clicking on one of the meeting dates below.

Below is a list of those projects the President's Council continued to work on in 2011, with a brief summary.

Annual Township Community Garage Sale

  • This project was initiated by the President’s Association in 2008 as a way to bring awareness to the various neighborhood associations as well as getting residents participating in their neighborhoods through the interaction with their respective neighbors through the garage sale format. This year, there were almost 100 garage sales registered with Harrison Township and over 100 garage sales which were active throughout the township region during these three days.   The days for the sale in 2011 were June 2nd through June 4th.  The garage sale was a huge success in 2011 with almost 100 garage sales registered in the township.

VIP Beautification Program

  • The VIP Beautification project calls for residents to nominate properties in which township residents go over and beyond the normal landscaping and visual improvements to their home, making the property as a whole stand out from the rest of the community.  Though this program is tweaked each year, the Board of Trustees enjoy recognizing each resident who spend the extra time to make the community more beautiful each year.  Please nominate a property or business in 2011 which you feel is deserving of recognition.  Spring nominations were accepted through May 31st and voted on by the President's at their July 26th meeting.  Summer nominations were accepted through August 31st of this year.

North Main Street, Sidewalk Replacement Program

  • The final project which was initiated in 2008 by the President’s Association was the N. Main Street sidewalk replacement program. After several meetings with township staff and representatives from the Ohio Department of Transportation in 2008, the State of Ohio agreed to undertake a $250,000 replacement project in 2009.  The project, which was initiated by the President’s to ensure the safety of all the township’s residents as they walked or traveled along N. Main Street, was completed in the fall of 2009.  The Ohio Department of Transportation hopes to start on a new sidewalk replacement program in the sections of N. Main Street, north of Turner Road, in 2012.

In addition to the above mentioned initiatives, the President's Council hosted a couple of guest speakers at their quarterly meetings in 2011.  In the spring, the President's Council invited various township community partners to partake in an evening of education and discussion.  Several local faith based organizations, local school districts, local library branches and Aullwood Audubon Center and Farm had tables/booths set up with information about their respective organizations.  In addition Mr. Tim Kambitsch, Executive Director of the Dayton Metro Libraries, came and spoke to those in attendance about the future plans for the libraries in our region.  In the summer meeting, the President's Council hosted Montgomery County Commissioner Dan Foley as he discussed the future of the Montgomery County community as a region.

The President's Council continues to look at continuing to develop their role as a partner in the Harrison Township community for 2012.
