As part of their duties, officers enforce local laws adopted by the Harrison Township trustees. Among these are:

Noise

Allows deputies to issue citations to people responsible for creating unreasonably loud, disturbing and unnecessary noises that disturb the people around them. Resolution specifies that noise emanating from horns, loudspeakers, animals, exhausts, construction equipment, blowers, stereos, “boom boxes,” radios and vehicle sound systems, among others, may be considered violations.

Barking Dogs

Requires that dogs be kept from creating a public nuisance through excessive barking.

Curfew

Limits the hours that young unsupervised people may be out, as follows:

  • Children under the age of 14 may not be out between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. any day of the week.
  • Teens of ages 15, 16 or 17 may not be out between midnight and 5 a.m. any day of the week.

Exceptions include going to, or coming from lawful employment or a lawful educational, entertainment, religious or social event.

Parking
  • Allows deputies to issue citations for certain parking violations that occur in Harrison Township, including:
  • Fire lane/no parking prohibits all parking in areas posted as fire-lane zones.
  • Handicap parking only restricts parking in those spaces for vehicles that display an authorized handicap placard or handicap license plate issued by the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. Those spaces are designated by posted signs and/or pavement markings.
  • Excessive size vehicles (any vehicle exceeding 6.5 feet in width or 20 feet in length) from stopping, standing or parking on any township street or right of way.
